Elizabeth Warren Wants To Ban Companies From Using Credit Checks On Potential Employees

Sen. Elizabeth Warren introduced a bill today that would prevent companies from using credit reports in hiring decisions.
Since the Great Depression, many unemployed Americans have struggled to find a job once employers check their credit history. Many of these people fell on hard times after the housing bubble burst or faced an unforeseen medical issue. Warren argues that since research has shown that a person's credit report has no indication on their job performance, companies shouldn't be allowed to use them in evaluating applicants.
"A bad credit rating is far more often the result of unexpected medical costs, unemployment, economic downturns, or other bad breaks than it is a reflection on an individual's character or abilities," she said. "Families have not fully recovered from the 2008 financial crisis, and too many Americans are still searching for jobs. It makes no sense to make it harder for people to get jobs because of a system of credit reporting that has no correlation with job performance and that can be riddled with inaccuracies."
Warren is right that this has hurt many Americans looking for jobs, but another potentially more worrisome problem with firms using credit reports in hiring decisions is that they use them to discriminate against applicants. For instance, the Department of Labor won a case against Bank of America in 2010 for its use of credit checks to discriminate against African-Americans for entry-level positions.
If studies showed that credit reports were a good proxy for an applicant's job performance, then Congress would need to crack down on the discriminatory practices without banning the use of credit reports in hiring decisions. But given that research shows otherwise, Congress can ban the practice altogether and ensure that companies cannot use credit reports as a roundabout way to discriminate while also not reducing companies' ability to evaluate job applicants.
Correction: Companies uses credit reports, not credit scores in hiring decisions.

As the days carry on into weeks, months and years you become weary and increasingly so. You have remained ever hopeful for change, for love, for rejuvenation, for absolute peace and a place where all truth is recognized as such, lived and understood. That is not the place you have now. Now, what you have is contrast.
Those you know and love are choosing, as are you. You are right now, today, on the threshold of new, of change, of another way. There has to be more than what you see everyday and even than what you feel. This is not a falsehood. Light is only visible in the dark. Absolute blackness shows only the light – frames it so it is clearly seen. Both are necessary for a complete picture.
Everything has come to now – it has to – how else can you look at it, deal with it, unless you are able to see it? What has become clear is YOU. Not a shrinking violet; not delusional, mistaken or in need of repair – but you in fullness.
What do you think it’ll take to move from this slave mentality to one of sovereignty? It will take a cutting off of dependence on separation, on division. What comes into your life now – today – in this moment – is set there with a single purpose: to aid in the fulfillment of this next phase of your journey. This may not be nice or comfortable, comforting or even healing – yet it will always be stimulating.
Today – action is inspired. This action will lead to further forward movement. As you sense the direction it is upon you to choose again.
Your purpose is life, plain and simple. You are here to experience life in whatever way it occurs for you. Until now, (and even still now), there have been limiting and confining systems at play. They have structured your response and defined all possible actions. This was by agreement and design. The exposure of these programs brings up conflict and dilemmas of judgment and unconditional acceptance for the beings running them.
There is nothing you can do about another being’s choice. All that you have at your disposal is your own discernment and action. You do not know the truth of another’s motivation or goal, try as you might. What you do know is how their choice affects you. If you perceive it as intrusive or harmful even, then you may be called to act. Speak your truth without judgment.
At this stage of your evolution, the question of love comes up. It has been “blissed out” in this culture and tied to an assortment of actions that have little connection to love.
Love is the basis of life. It rests at your very core. You are love. Yet what does that mean? It means that the loneliest one, without home or family, knows love; as does the banker, the policeman, the president and the pope. It is the unifying thought – the One thought – and is universally understood.
There is love – which is what you are.
There is light – which is love’s eternal expression.
There is your body – which is love’s current costume.
There is this planet – which is love’s current stage.
There is thought (what you think) – which is love’s current director.
There is the word (what you say) – which is love’s current producer.
There is action (what you do) – which is love’s current performer.
There is emotion (what you feel) – which is love’s current audience.
With each action and resulting emotion, thoughts are generated, which lead to words, more actions and new feelings. None of these are love. They do not mean love, signify love, or look like love. They are merely thoughts, words and deeds. They are all chosen by love – to experience itself in physical form. They cannot be right or wrong or hateful or hurtful until interpreted by the audience (emotion).
Each interpretation leads to a modification, some new thoughts (directing), more words (producing) and further action (by the performer/entertainer) for the audience (emotion). The circle is complete – it was started and ended by love.
When you watch a production, play a game or view a sporting event, are you sometimes ripped apart? Shouting, crying, laughing, angry, joyful and overwhelmed? When its over, do you then hate the players or actors and deem them evil in every part of their lives? Well, maybe for a moment, yet the next week or game or show will probably find you right back at it – rooting for them.
Do that in your life. When it rips you apart and brings up all sorts of powerful emotion, realize you’ve just taken part in a captivating show. Choose now if you want to see it again, without giving it a name or judging those involved. Watch what happens.
With the limits off of your definition of love, you are free to feel it everywhere. Freedom is the ability to do what you want without restriction. Engage, without judgment, to keep life interesting and exciting. Both fire and ice are beautiful and extreme; they stand as necessary expressions here to be fully experienced.
Love is not what you do or say or think. Love is what you are. Love is not one person. Love is all of us. We are the Ones we’ve been waiting for.
Blossom Goodchild - 19 December, 2013
Welcome to you. I would firstly like to open my heart in Love to you ... DONE! ... and secondly, inquire about the beautiful magenta Pillar of Light that was captured on a photograph recently. ( See blog post http://blossomgoodchild.blogspot.com/) This, for me, is so similar to the image you showed to me way back in 2011 when you first brought it up. Would you please confirm as to whether this is what you were speaking of ... or something else?
Firstly we send Love in an abundant form to each one of you. We find it necessary to consider that which we address in terms of accuracy ... and we are bursting forth with our signature in this way. So yes, indeed we would say that this is the beginning of that which we were speaking of.
Meaning that there will be many more?
As we promised there would be. Yet take into consideration the fact that this 'image' was captured in the blink of an eye. We would foretell that the Pillars when they arrive ... shall remain and travel ... in an array of rainbow Light ... and as with your fireworks when alighted ... there shall be an outpour of 'ooh's and ah's!
Well, it certainly would be a delight to actually see them after all this time, that's for sure! Anything more you would care to speak of about them?
We spoke of them greatly way back when ... and nothing has changed regarding the form(at) they are to undertake. As one glimpses and becomes washed over in their beauty ... one shall also experience the FEELING of codes rushing through the brain. This of course shall be activating that which has lain dormant as we have also spoken of.
So, may I be as bold as to ask if these Pillars of Light are part of The Event that you have been speaking of?

Indian diplomat says she was subjected her to a strip-search, cavity-search and DNA swabbing
The case has sparked widespread outrage in India and infuriated the government
Indian diplomat was arrested on visa charges in New York City
The arrest of a low-level diplomat from India over maid pay in New York has spun into an international incident that is threatening relations between the United States and a longtime ally.
Secretary of State John Kerry called a cabinet official in New Delhi on Wednesday to express regret over the arrest of India deputy consul general Devyani Khobragade, who was stripped- and cavity-searched during her arrest on charges that she didn't pay her housekeeper enough money.
The India government reacted with outrage, going so far as to remove security barriers outside the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and canceling duty-free liquor deliveries to the embassy.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh described the diplomat's treatment as "deplorable" and protests have broken out in India.
"We don't want this to negatively impact our bilateral relationship (with India), and we'll keep talking about it with them on the ground and here," said Marie Harf, deputy spokeswoman at the State Department.
Khobragade said the U.S. Marshals Service subjected her to an intrusive search and DNA swabbing following her arrest last week outside her daughter's Manhattan school on visa charges despite her "incessant assertions of immunity."

Potential breach involves information stored on magnetic stripe on back of cards
Situation appears to involve nearly all Target stores in the United States
Target did not respond to telephone message left at headquarters Wednesday night
The Secret Service has confirmed to USA TODAY that it is investigating a potential massive data breach involving shoppers' personal credit card information and Target retail stores.
"The Secret Service will confirm it is investigating the incident at Target," spokesman Brian Leary said in a telephone interview Wednesday night. "We don't have any further comment because it's an ongoing investigation."
The potential breach began around Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and the busiest shopping day of the year, according to the Krebs on Security website. The breach involves the theft of information stored on the magnetic stripe on the backs of cards used at nearly all of Target's stores around the country, Krebs reports.

KrebsOnSecurity.com is the site of Brian Krebs, a national computer security expert and former Washington Post reporter.
Target is based in Minneapolis and has almost 1,800 stores in the United States and 124 in Canada, according to its website.
The discount retailer did not respond to a telephone message left Wednesday night at its corporate offices.
James Issokson, vice president of MasterCard communications, said in an e-mail to USA TODAY that a question regarding the potential breach "at this point is best directed to Target."
An expert with a global firm that helps companies respond to and mitigate breaches said while he could not address the Target situation specifically, many companies - large are small - are typically underprepared when they face a breach.
Most important is that the potential breach be addressed quickly, to help get information out to those affected and to regulators, to bring in the right experts to address the breach (such as forensics experts who can stop cyber attacks) and to help preserve the public's trust in the company, said Mike Donovan, Global Focus Group Leader for Beazley Breach Response, headquartered in London.
"We see breaches across all sizes of companies," said Donovan, who is based in San Francisco. "You see the stories about the big ones in the news, but breaches are affecting companies all across the board."
Beazley recently responded to its 1000th breach and the company has seen a "significant number" of large breaches in the last four or five years, Donovan said.
It happens all the time, every day, with retailers, health care organizations, schools and other operations, he said.
"Any company that handles personal data is vulnerable," Donovan said.
Krebs reports its sources initially thought the breach took place from just after Thanksgiving to Dec. 6, but now believe it took place until as far as Dec. 15.
The potential breach does not appear to involve online purchases, Krebs reports. It appears the type of data stolen would allow thieves to create counterfeit credit cards and, if pin numbers were intercepted, would also allow thieves to withdraw cash from ATM machines, according to Krebs.
Visa did not respond to e-mails or telephone messages left with its corporate office.
